Floating Docks

DockinaBox® floating dock systems are ideal for light to medium wave conditions. They are generally used in areas where it is virtually impossible to use a pipe dock or when the bottom is mucky and sinking. Floating docks are also used when water levels vary excessively up and down throughout the season.

Larger floating docks are more stable and are generally preferred in the 6 foot or larger widths. Also assisting in stabilizing the dock are chains with connected anchors used on each corner in a crisscross configuration. Anchor weights can be 250 pounds or more depending on wind, waves, and current conditions.

A semi floating dock, which is also referred to as a ramp, connects the main dock to the shore and has one or more floats. The length of the ramp depends on the amount of water fluctuation and the distance needed to extend to deep enough water so that the floats do not touch the bottom when the water level goes down. The ramp provides a safe walking angle and is attached with heavy duty steel hinges at either end that are connected to the floating dock or to the land with quick pins.

The first type of floating dock is a medium weight, non-recycled wood/polyethylene composite, which has better qualities than other recycled composites. It has excellent traction when wet, yet feels very comfortable on the feet and is not hot when in direct sunlight. This type of composite has a very natural wood-like colour and may be preferred for a more natural surface.

The second type of floating dock that DockinaBox® sells is a fiberglass reinforced plastic panel, which is considerably lighter. This product is called DeckWave™ and is even more manageable as it is 1/3 the weight of most other decking panels. The DeckWave™ panels have a semi-open grid pattern, which allows light and water to pass through naturally. This is a popular choice for environmentally conscious areas. For more information on DeckWave™ please visit www.deckwave.com.

Both of the pipe dock options will considerably outlast any cedar or wood type decking choice on the market. All of the DockinaBox® dock systems come in a kit and are easy to transport and assemble. The system allows you to slide out the decking panels to make the frame and floats more hassle-free when removing for the winter season.
