Floating Docks

DockinaBox® floating dock systems are ideal for light to heavy wave conditions. They are generally used in areas where it is virtually impossible to use a pipe dock or when the bottom is mucky and sinky. Floating docks are also used when water levels vary excessively up and down throughout the year.

Large floating docks are more stable and are generally preferred in the 6 foot or larger widths. Also assisting in stabilizing the dock are chains with connected anchors used on each corner in a crisscross configuration. Anchor weights can be 250 lbs. or more depending on wind waves and current conditions.

A semi floating dock which is also referred to as a ramp connects the main dock to the shore and has one or more floats. The length of the ramp depends on the amount of water fluctuation and the distance needed to extend to deep enough water so that the floats do not touch the bottom when the water level goes down. The ramp provides a safe walking angle and is attached with heavy duty steel hinges at either end that are connected to the floating dock or to the land with quick pins.

One of our most popular floating dock decking systems utilizes a medium weight premium wood / polyethylene composite, which has better qualities than other recycled composite. It has excellent traction when wet, yet feels very comfortable on the feet and is not hot when in direct sunlight. This type of composite has a very natural wood like color and may be preferred for a more natural surface. It also has a density heavier than water, so unlike wood, the panels cannot float the dock away.

The second type of decking available is made of fiber reinforced plastic which is considerably lighter than composite. The product is called DeckWave® and is even more manageable as it is 1/3 the weight of most other decking panels.

The DeckWave® panels have a semi-open grid pattern which allows light and water to pass through naturally. This is a popular choice for environmentally sensitive areas. For more information on DeckWave®, please visit www.deckwave.com

Both decking options will considerably outlast cedar or wood type decking available from other manufacturers. All DockinaBox® dock systems are in a kit form and are easy to transport and assemble. The decking panels can be removed easily making the dock frame lightweight for spring and fall installation and removal.
